University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, founded in 1821, is a private institution offering degree programs in the health sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, and arts and sciences. There are 3 undergraduate schools and 1 graduate school. In addition to regional accreditation, USP has baccalaureate program accreditation with ACPE and APTA. The 30-acre campus is in an urban area in the University City section of Philadelphia.

HOUSING
650 students can be accommodated in college housing, which includes coed dormitories and on-campus suites.  In addition there is an honors residence hall. On-campus housing is guaranteed for the first and second  years. Seventy percent of students live on campus or nearby; of those, 70% remain on campus on weekends. Alcohol is not permitted. 

ACTIVITIES
There are 40 groups on campus, including 12 national fraternities, cheerleading,  chorus,  drama, ethnic, honors, international, literary magazine, musical theater, newspaper, band, professional, religious, social, social service, student government, and yearbook. Popular campus events include Multicultural Week and Student Appreciation Day.


SPORTS
There are 4 intercollegiate sports for men and 5 for women, and 2 coed sports (rifle, and golf).  Facilities include a gym, a rifle range, tennis courts, a softball field and recreational areas in the residence halls. Construction on a new state-of-the-art athletic/recreation building is set to begin March 2002.

Bachelor's or first professional degrees are offered in Biochemistry, Biology, Bioinformetics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Health Psychology, Health Sciences, Medical Technology, Microbiology, Occupational Therapy, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Marketing and Management, Pharmaceutical Technology, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant and Pre-Med Track, and Science Teacher Certification.

Held during the summer months, this program offers information about the admission and financial aid process and a tour of the campus.

Campus Day Visit
Want to find out what it is like to spend a day on the USP campus, going to class, eating in the student center, hanging out with friends? Students who have applied may opt to shadow a USP student for a day Monday through Friday during the academic year. Consider this your own personal open house. Plan ahead, though, because we need two weeks notice to ensure your best experience.

Almost any day
The Admission Office schedules individual tours of the campus between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, except during our summer session when we are closed on Fridays.

By Public Transportation
From Center City or University City Philadelphia, catch a Route 11 or 36 Subway Surface Trolley (Green Line) heading westbound. The trolley will come above ground near campus. Get off at 43rd Street and Woodland Avenue. You will be on campus.

From the North
Take the Pennsylvania Turnpike to Exit 20 Mid-County (formerly Exit 25A) to I-476 South to I-76 East (Schuylkill Expressway).  

**Proceeding on I-76, follow signs for the International Airport. As your approach downtown Philadelphia the highway will divide. Stay to the right; do not take I-676 East into Central Philadelphia.  Exit I-76 at University Avenue - Exit 346B (formerly Exit 41). Follow directions below for "...rest of the way." 

"...rest of the way"
As you exit off the ramp, the road will divide. Stay to the right following University Avenue for.6 miles. At the fourth traffic light, make a left onto Baltimore Avenue. 

The Veteran's Administration Hospital will be on your left. Immediately after the left turn, the road will divide. Bear left. This will put you onto Woodland Avenue. Proceed straight on Woodland Avenue for .5 miles (do not veer to the right midway down Woodland). Make a right onto 43rd Street. Visitor Parking is located on the left hand side of the street, directly across from Griffith Hall. The Admission Office is located in Griffith Hall-Room 130. The Financial Aid Office is located in Griffith Hall-Room 172.

From the West
Take the Pennsylvania Turnpike to Exit 326 Valley Forge Interchange (formerly Exit 24). Follow the signs for I-76 East (Schuylkill Expressway). Follow the directions for From the North from the**.

From the South
Take I-95 North and follow the signs to I-76 West (Central Philadelphia). Take I-76 West (Schuylkill Expressway) and exit at University Avenue - Exit346B (formerly Exit 41). Follow University Avenue for exactly 1 mile. At the eighth traffic light make a left onto Baltimore Ave. Follow "...rest of the way" from the second paragraph. 

Via I-95 From the North or East
Take I-95 South to the exit for Central Philadelphia/I-676 West/Rt. 30 West. Follow I-676 West to I-76 East. Once on I-76 exit at University Avenue - Exit 346B (formerly 41). Follow the directions for "...rest of the way."

From the New Jersey Turnpike
Take the New Jersey Turnpike to Exit 3 and follow the signs for the Walt Whitman Bridge. When you cross the bridge go west on I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway). Exit I-76 at University Avenue - Exit 346B (formerly exit 41). Follow University Ave for exactly one mile. At the eight traffic light make a left onto Baltimore Ave. Follow directions for "...rest of the way" from the second paragraph.
