| Recognized internationally as a leader in liberal arts
education and as one of the nation’s most selective
colleges, Haverford offers a dynamic and intellectually vibrant
education. As the first College established by Quakers in
1833, Haverford is non-sectarian, but retains its founding
principles of individual integrity, community and social consciousness.
A student-directed Honor Code provides for unproctored and
self-administered exams; consensus, cooperative learning,
and global thinking inform the curriculum, community, and
pedagogical approaches to teaching.
HOUSING
99% of Haverford students opt to live on-campus and campus
housing is guaranteed for all four years. Over 60% of students
live in singles. Students can choose from an array of housing
options that include dormitory suites with common rooms, on-campus
apartments with full kitchens, and houses that were originally
private dwellings. Special interest housing is available in
the Black Cultural Center and La Casa Hispanica. In addition,
more than 50% of the Faculty live on-campus.
ACTIVITIES
Haverford students can choose from a broad range and variety
of activities. The consortium with Bryn Mawr and Swarthmore
gives Haverford all of the extracurricular resources of a
large institution, while preserving the accessibility to these
events and organizations that can only be enjoyed at a small
college. Students can attend events on all three campuses.
Student organizations range from cultural, political and religious
groups to organizations that offer students opportunities
to pursue their interests in journalism and writing, instrumental
and vocal music, art, athletics, and community service.
SPORTS
Intercollegiate sports include Baseball, Basketball, Cricket
(men only), Cross-Country, Fencing, Field Hockey, Lacrosse,
Soccer, Squash, Softball, Tennis, Track, and Volleyball (women
only). Haverford offers intramural basketball, soccer, softball,
and volleyball. There are student-organized club teams in
Crew, Golf, Ice Hockey, Ultimate Frisbee, and Men’s
Volleyball. Haverford is proud to boast the only Varsity Cricket
team in the country.
A new state-of-the-art athletic facility opened in October 2005. The Alumni Field House holds
basketball, tennis and volleyball courts, a batting cage,
and a 200-meter indoor track. There are numerous athletic
fields, an all-weather 400-meter outdoor track, 12 outdoor
tennis courts, and one of the best cricket pitches in the
United States.

tour times. No appointment is necessary, but we do encourage
you to arrive at least five minutes before the tour in order
for you to sign-in and to chat informally with one of our
student hosts.
On-campus interviews are strongly encouraged if possible,
especially for students who live within 150 miles of the campus.
You may interview as early as March of your junior year

wish to meet with an athletic coach during your visit, you
should contact the coach directly (see www.haverford.edu/athletics/contactcoach.php).
If you can’t make it to Haverford when our office is
