Philadelphia students share their love for Philadelphia.
Joe Dawkins
Growing up surrounded by the lakes and mountains of Montana, I knew only the laid back atmosphere of the northwest.

Now, however, I find myself immersed in Philadelphia's upbeat lifestyle. I can drive into the city to see a concert, enjoy an exhibit at the museum, or catch a major league ball game. In a couple of hours I can be in New York City, Washington D.C. or even the Jersey Shore.

There is no other place in the country that centers a student in a better location. Philadelphia offers me the type of environment I could only have experienced before while on vacation.

As a sport management major, I've found Philadelphia to be the perfect location to gain experience in my field. We have major league baseball, basketball, football, hockey, lacrosse, soccer, not to mention all the minor league and college sports in the area.

No where else would I have had the opportunity to intern with ESPN's 2001 Summer X-Games, where I met sports industry giants that I would only have dreamed about back home.

Philadelphia 76ersThe city provides a student with so many colleges to choose from it is hard to decide where to go to school. Luckily, I think I made the right choice. As a senior at Widener University, I've had the privilege of playing four years of collegiate baseball and attending an accredited business school with a sports management curriculum. Not only that, but the friendships I have made here will provide me with a lifelong link to the city.

The people of this city are like no other. I have found them to be honest, outspoken, and loyal to their community. Their unique character can be found in the city's numerous traditions, from the Rocky steps at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, an Irish Pub, South Street, the neighborhood pizza and steak shops in South Philly, to a Big Five match-up at the Palestra.

Although my home is more than 2,000 miles away, I now feel a strong to connection with Philadelphia and its people. My four years in the city have provided me not just a fantastic college education, but also an insight into my future career.

If, like me, you are willing to try something new, face new challenges and embrace exciting opportunities, then Philadelphia is the place for you.
